Pathology reports produced by the IMVS are generally printed on IMVS stationery and delivered by courier.
As an adjunct to this service, IMVS customers can request that copies of all reports be delivered by
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to a computer.
Methods of delivery
There are three methods of delivery. Click on the links below to obtain more information.Format of report
- Via the Internet, using the HTTPS (secure web) protocol
- Via the Internet, using an FTP server (Permanent connection required) - please contact us
- Via a modem on your computer
The format of the report is governed by the method that they will be used. For example, if you wish to use the file to import into Medical Director, you would use the 'PIT' format.

| PIT | The Queensland pathology report (PIT) format has become a de facto Australian standard for the electronic delivery of pathology reports. Most Australian medical software packages that support have pathology modules can import results in the PIT format, such as Medical Director, Medical Spectrum Systems (MSS), MIMS Script, RX Medical, Medrecord and Medipak. | |
| RTF | A Rich Text Format (RTF) representation of standard IMVS pathology reports, suitable for viewing in a word processor. As the RTF format can include page breaks, it can also be used to print reports once received. | |
| Text | A plain ASCII representation of standard IMVS pathology reports, suitable for viewing in a text editor (eg Notepad). |
